Default Moving to Northern Ireland

hi everyone, i've just stumbled across this website and i'm quiet liking it lol i see there's alot of people moving here and there and doing all sorts and well basically i'm moving myself from galway to tyrone and i'm trying to sort of if i'll need a national insurance number?? its like our pps number and i presumed i'd need one, and i'm searching the net to no avail of help, anyway i was registering with a recruitment agency last week, and i seen on the application for yesterday they asked for my national insurance number or my pps number?? totally confussed me, will my pps number do?? i've to go on benefits or dole till i get work which hopefully wont be too long but can anyone shed some light on the subject for me please. thanks gem

The general expertise on this site is limited to Ireland, N. Ireland is part of the UK and therefore the rules are different. You will need to contact the Department of Work & Pensions ( it may have a different title now) in the N. Ireland to establish how you register for a National Insurance number. You might also ask the employment agency to give you some advice in this regard. Also you will need to check whether or not you are eligible for State benefits before you move.
