Default Dublin or Waterford? Help!

I am planning on moving from the US to Ireland in a year. I am wondering where in Ireland I should move. I haven't been so I'm not sure. I do have it narrowed down to two cities. Dublin and Waterford City.

I am from Seattle and am wondering which place would suit me the best. I love the city and the ocean. Which makes it sound like Dublin would be a good choice. I have heard though that it is a bit too touristy and there are nicer places to live in Ireland. I don't know though. Please help, I'm open to suggestions!

Hi Chelsea
First of all the definition of a city in Ireland may not quite be what you are used to, Waterford would probably be considered a medium sized town in the USA - the population is about 45,000. Without wanting to insult the place, and please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but apart from the tower, the glass factory and the quays it really doesn't have many remarkable features, but it does have a nice 'buzz' about it and the pubs are lively to say the least.

However I'd say it's very safe to assume the cost of living is cheaper there and you wouldn't have any of the other issues associated with living in a *real* city.

Dublin on the other hand is cosmopolitan, has the galleries, the fancy shops etc.etc. but it also has all the problems associated with any city - expensive, can be dangerous in places, hard to travel around etc.

So each one has it's own pros and cons. If you are a city person and enjoy city life choose Dublin, however if you want to to live in a big town and like being within 5 minutes of the countryside and don't want to pay too much for the pleasure choose Waterford.

ps. Wateford is very close to the sea too.
