Rep Power: 0 | Has anyone else done this? I am curious how long it takes. I have to put an expected arrival date on the application, but if the Chicago Consulate takes like three months to process this, that would screw up my plans a bit. Anyone have any advice on applying for this? |

I'm also an American student who is very interested in applying for the 12 month working holiday visa. It's probably the fact that this program is so new, but I haven't found a single place or person mentioning trying the WHV for Ireland yet... Likely a newbie like myself won't be very much help to a fellow newbie, but I would guess that you'd want to apply for the program as soon as you know what date you'd like to depart. I can't see any other way around it, unless you try calling up the Consulate closest to you and asking them what they suggest. : / Good luck to you! |

Hi I'm an American who just recieved her working holiday visa for Ireland. It shouldn't be a long process if you make sure all of your paperwork is correct. My school stuff was constantly needing to be resent, along with bank documents. They will be picky on these things. Make sure you are keeping in contact with the consulate or else they will send everything by post and it will take much longer to find out where your authorisation is during the process. If you have any questions about the WHA I'd be happy to answer them.

sailorbttrfly, thanks for replying. It's nice to hear from someone who's gone through this already. So did you send everything via post? I live rather close to one of the Consulates, so I was considering just going in in person and handing off the documents if I could. (I shot them an email to ask if I could do this, but haven't heard back yet due to the inclement weather in the area). I have a lot of questions about your experience so far, includiing if you've headed off to Ireland yet to start your visa, but mostly I'd just love to hear what you've done thus far. |

No problem. I received my visa last wednesday and flew out to Ireland on Monday the 8th. I sent everything via post, but you can do either. The San Francisco Consulate that I went through, said that either way they process it at the same time. Doing it through the post was just easiest for me. I have a friend that gave me most of the info for my visa but after the websites it was really just up to me. Getting your documents in order early is most definitely important. Give yourself at least an extra month from what they suggest. My trip was postponed due to the wrong documents being sent it. |

So I should plan in an additional month of processing than they recommend to be on the safe side? How long of a grace period do you have from when you get the visa to when you can fly into the country? I hope you'll forgive me, but I also have another question... do you already have a job there, or are you looking? I've been trying to see if it's possible to line something up- an interview or something similar- before I go, but would love to hear what if anything you've been planning. Thanks again.

Sailorbttrfly, How did you keep in contact with the Consulate? ie email, telephone? My application was received on April 15 at the Consulate General in San Francisco, and on the 20th I received an email asking for more documentation from my school (which I overnighted to them) I see that you entered Ireland in Febraury, but when did you first send your application? Also, what kind of time line takes place with the whole process? Thanks! Sasha |
