Email addresses are masked in order to protect site users from spam bots that harvest websites for email addresses.
There is also a second reason they’re masked – in the unlikely event something were to happen to someone who arranged to meet another person through the site, the IP address of those who accessed that person’s email address would have been recorded, in theory allowing them to be traced.

So basically, email addresses are masked to protect site users, no other reason 🙂
